There’s something funny about the things we say we want “someday.” As long as though things live safely in the future, they’re easy to dream about.
Maybe I’ll do that someday. Maybe someday I’ll finally give myself the chance. And then, every once in a while, life shifts just enough that “someday” starts looking a whole lot more like maybe now.
This is when things get interesting.
Just because wanting something from a distance is one thing. But realizing it might actually be possible is something else entirely.
Suddenly there are real questions to answer. Real decisions to make. Real logistics to consider. And, if I’m being truthful, quite bit of fear tends to show up right alongside the excitement.
I think sometimes we expect getting closer to something we’ve wanted for years to feel purely exciting. But it doesn’t always work that way.
Sometimes you’ll feel vulnerable. Sometimes you’ll feel overwhelming.
Sometimes it makes you question whether you still want the thing you’ve spent so much time imagining.
And sometimes the scariest part isn’t wondering whether the opportunity will ever come. It’s realizing that it definetly might.
There is comfort in “not yet.” There’s a strange kind of safety in being able to say the timing isn’t right, the circumstances aren’t right, or it just isn’t possible.
But once those excuses start falling away, you’re left with a much simpler question:
What do I actually want to do?
That’s where I’ve found myself lately.
There’s an idea that has come back around more than once. Something I’ve thought about, set aside, revisited, and quietly wondered about for years and years.
For a super long time, it felt like one of those things that belonged in the “maybe someday” category. Or the hey the was a nice thought area of life.
And now?
It’s starting to feel a little more real. A little more possible. And yes, a whole lot more terrifying.
But I’m beginning to think that maybe fear doesn’t always mean stop.
Sometimes it means you’re standing close enough to something you really want that you can finally see what it could man in your life.
I have a feeling I’ll have a little more to share soon.
Until then, maybe this is your reminder too:
If there’s something that keeps coming back to you, something you’ve wanted for a long time but kept putting in the “someday” box, it might be worth asking yourself why it’s still there.
Maybe it’s not random. Maybe it’s your next chapter. Maybe it’s where you’re actually supposed to be.
